01Who we are (the data controller)
This Privacy Policy explains how your personal data is collected, used and protected when you visit rakebase.com (“RakeBase”, “we”, “us”, “our”).
RakeBase is operated by its publishing company, which is the data controller responsible for your personal data under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and, where applicable, the UK GDPR.
- Controller:
- The company that operates rakebase.com. Its registered name, company number and registered address are available on request from privacy@rakebase.com.
- Privacy contact:
- privacy@rakebase.com
- Data Protection Officer:
- Direct enquiries to privacy@rakebase.com
RakeBase is an independent affiliate and comparison site. We are not a gambling operator: we do not take bets, hold funds, run games or process gambling transactions. Our content is intended for adults aged 18 or over (see Section 11).
02Scope of this policy
This policy covers personal data we process about visitors to our website and people who contact us or sign up to our communications. It does not cover the gambling operators, sportsbooks or prediction-market platforms you visit after leaving our site. Once you click through to a third-party operator, that operator becomes the controller of your data under its own privacy policy. We encourage you to read it before signing up.
03The personal data we collect
We collect two broad types of data: data you provide or that is collected directly from your device (covered by GDPR Article 13), and data we receive about you from third parties (covered by GDPR Article 14, see Section 8).
3.1 Data we collect directly from you (Article 13)
- Contact data
- If you email us or use a contact form, your name, email address and the content of your message.
- Communications/marketing data
- If you sign up for our community channel, mailing list or bonus alerts, your email address and subscription preferences.
- Technical and usage data (collected automatically)
- IP address, device and browser type, operating system, referring URL, pages viewed, time on site, approximate location (derived from IP), and interactions such as which offers you click.
- Cookie and tracking data
- Identifiers set by cookies and similar technologies (see Section 6), including affiliate click identifiers.
- Session-replay and interaction data
- Records of how you interact with a page, mouse movement, clicks and taps, scrolling and the sequence of pages you view, captured by our session-analytics provider and used to produce replays and aggregated heatmaps (see Section 6.1).
- Age-confirmation preference
- A record that you confirmed you are 18+ via our age gate (stored on your device).
04Why we use your data and our legal bases
We only process personal data where we have a lawful basis under GDPR Article 6. The table below sets out each purpose and its legal basis.
| Purpose | Data used | Legal basis (Art 6 GDPR) |
|---|---|---|
| Operating, securing and maintaining the website | Technical/usage data, server logs | Legitimate interests, running a safe, functional site |
| Remembering your age confirmation and cookie choices | Age-confirmation flag, consent record | Legitimate interests / legal compliance |
| Responding to your enquiries | Contact data | Legitimate interests, handling your request; or steps at your request |
| Sending you community updates, bonus alerts or newsletters | Communications/marketing data | Consent (Art 6(1)(a)), withdrawable at any time |
| Measuring and analysing site traffic, performance and how pages are used | Cookie/analytics data, session-replay and interaction data (Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity, Sections 6.1 and 6.2) | Consent |
| Tracking affiliate referrals and conversions, and receiving commission | Affiliate click identifiers, conversion data | Legitimate interests, measuring and being paid for referrals |
| Personalising or measuring marketing/advertising | Cookie/marketing data | Consent |
| Complying with legal, accounting and regulatory obligations | Relevant transaction/accounting data | Legal obligation (Art 6(1)(c)) |
| Establishing, exercising or defending legal claims | Relevant data | Legitimate interests / legal obligation |
Where we rely on legitimate interests, we have balanced those interests against your rights and freedoms; you can object at any time (see Section 10). Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
05Whether you must provide your data
There is no statutory or contractual requirement to provide personal data to browse most of RakeBase. However:
- Some technical data is collected automatically and is necessary for the site to function and remain secure.
- If you choose to contact us, we need your email address to reply.
- If you choose to subscribe to updates, we need your email address to send them.
If you do not provide the data needed for a specific service (for example, a reply or a newsletter), we will simply be unable to provide that service. Declining non-essential cookies will not stop you using the core site.
06Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies to operate the site, remember your choices, measure traffic, and track affiliate referrals. We group them as follows:
- Strictly necessary cookies
- Required for the site to work (security, load balancing, your cookie-consent choice and age confirmation). These do not require consent.
- Analytics and session-analytics cookies
- Help us understand how visitors use the site, including Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity (see Sections 6.1 and 6.2). These are not needed for the site to work.
- Affiliate / referral cookies
- Record that you arrived at, or clicked through from, RakeBase so that a referral can be correctly attributed. Set with your consent where required.
- Marketing cookies
- Used to measure or personalise advertising. Set only with your consent.
You can accept or reject non-essential cookies through our cookie banner and change your choice at any time via the cookie settings link in the footer. You can also control cookies through your browser settings.
6.1 Microsoft Clarity (session analytics)
We use Microsoft Clarity, a session-analytics and heatmap tool provided by Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited and Microsoft Corporation (“Microsoft”), to understand how our pages are actually used, which layouts confuse people, and where visitors run into problems.
- What it captures
- Pages viewed and the order you view them in, clicks and taps, scrolling, mouse movement, session duration, plus device type, screen size, browser, operating system, referring URL and approximate location derived from your IP address. Clarity combines these into session replays and aggregated heatmaps.
- What it does not capture
- Clarity applies its default masking to text typed into form fields, so replays do not show the content of what you enter. We do not use Clarity to identify you personally, and we do not attempt to match a replay to a named individual.
- Role of Microsoft
- Microsoft processes this data for us as a provider, and also handles it in line with the Microsoft Privacy Statement. Clarity sets its own cookies and uses similar technologies such as local storage.
- Where the data goes
- Processing may take place in the United States. Transfers outside the EEA/UK rely on the safeguards described in Section 9.
- How long it is kept
- Microsoft retains Clarity project data for approximately 13 months, after which it is deleted.
Microsoft’s handling of this data is described in the Microsoft Privacy Statement. You can prevent Clarity from running by blocking non-essential cookies or scripts in your browser settings, or by using a tracker-blocking extension, and you can ask us about it or object at any time at privacy@rakebase.com (see Section 10).
6.2 Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4, provided by Google Ireland Limited (“Google”), to measure traffic and see which pages and offers people actually use.
- What it captures
- Pages viewed, referring URL, session and engagement metrics, device type, browser, operating system, and approximate location. Google Analytics uses your IP address to derive that location and does not retain the IP address itself in our reports.
- Cookies it sets
- Google Analytics cookies (_ga and related) that distinguish one visitor from another and recognise returning visitors. We do not enable Google's advertising or cross-site personalisation features.
- Where the data goes, and for how long
- Google may process the data outside the EEA/UK under the safeguards in Section 9. Visitor and event-level data is retained for a limited period set in our Google Analytics settings; aggregated reporting may be kept longer.
Google’s handling of this data is described in its Privacy Policy. You can opt out across all sites with Google’s browser opt-out add-on, or block non-essential cookies and scripts in your browser as described in Section 6.1.
07Who we share your data with (recipients)
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the following categories of recipients:
- Service providers (processors) acting on our behalf
- For example, web hosting, email/newsletter providers, analytics and session-analytics providers (including Microsoft, for Clarity), and security tools, under contracts that require them to protect your data.
- Affiliate networks and gambling operators
- In connection with referral tracking and conversion measurement (see Section 8).
- Professional advisers
- Such as lawyers, accountants and auditors, where necessary.
- Authorities and regulators
- Where required by law, or to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
- Successors
- In the event of a business sale, merger or reorganisation.
08Data we receive about you from third parties (GDPR Article 14)
Because RakeBase is an affiliate business, we may receive certain personal data about you from sources other than you directly. In line with GDPR Article 14, we tell you the following:
- Categories of data concerned
- Online identifiers and click/referral identifiers, conversion or “postback” events (for example, that a click originating from RakeBase resulted in a sign-up or a qualifying action), transaction or commission values, and limited technical data such as device, browser and approximate location.
- Source of the data
- The gambling operators, sportsbooks, prediction-market platforms and affiliate networks we partner with, and our analytics and advertising providers. This data does not generally come from publicly accessible sources.
- Purposes and legal basis
- We use this data to attribute referrals, measure performance, receive commission, detect fraud and keep our records accurate. Our legal basis is legitimate interests (operating and being paid for our affiliate activity), unless we tell you otherwise.
- Recipients and transfers
- As described in Sections 7 and 9.
- Retention
- As described in Section 12.
Where we obtain this data, we will provide you with the information required by Article 14 within a reasonable period (and at the latest within one month), or at the point of first communication with you, unless an exemption applies.
09International data transfers
We are based in the EU. Some of our service providers and partners may process data outside the European Economic Area (EEA), for example, analytics or advertising providers based in the United States. Where personal data is transferred to a country outside the EEA/UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as:
- an adequacy decision by the European Commission (for example, the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, where the recipient is certified), or
- Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission, together with any additional measures required.
You can request a copy of the relevant safeguards by contacting us at privacy@rakebase.com.
10Your rights under the GDPR

- Erase your data (“right to be forgotten”) in certain circumstances (Art 17).

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@rakebase.com. We will respond within one month, which may be extended by two further months for complex requests. We will not charge a fee unless your request is manifestly unfounded or excessive.
11Children
RakeBase contains content about gambling and is intended strictly for adults aged 18 and over (or the legal gambling age where you live). We do not knowingly direct our services to, or knowingly collect personal data from, anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected data from a person under 18, we will delete it. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal data, please contact privacy@rakebase.com.
12How long we keep your data
We keep personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes set out above, including any legal, accounting or reporting requirements. As a general guide:
- Contact/enquiry data
- Kept while we handle your request and for a reasonable period afterwards, then deleted.
- Newsletter/marketing data

- Server logs/security data

When data is no longer needed, we securely delete or anonymise it.
13Automated decision-making and profiling
We may use cookies and analytics to understand general usage patterns and, with your consent, to measure or personalise advertising. We do not make decisions that produce legal effects concerning you, or similarly significantly affect you, based solely on automated processing within the meaning of GDPR Article 22.
14How we protect your data
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, loss, misuse or alteration, including encryption in transit, access controls, and contracts with our processors. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, but we work to protect your data and review our measures regularly.
